PADASA is a small salon that connects mind, body, and the present moment through meditation, yoga, and art.
The building, originally a pawn shop built in 1841, was inherited from my family and renovated.
“PADA” in Pali means “word,” and in Sanskrit, it means “foot,” “place,” or “stage, process.”
The Kumano Kodo pilgrimage routes tell the story of the history of coexistence between faith and nature of those who have walked them since ancient times. We have overlapped these footsteps with the steps of life.
“SA” is a character from the reading of the number “three” (san).
It includes the “three” from the name of my ancestor, Kakuzo Otonashi, who built this house six generations ago, respect for the three religions that have coexisted and prospered with the Kumano Sanzan and Kumano Kodo, the Yatagarasu, a three-legged crow representing heaven, earth, and people, and said to be the incarnation of the sun and a guiding deity to Kumano, the Sanskrit word “Sangha” meaning “gathering,” and a homage to the PADAWAN from my favorite movie, all combined to name this small space PADASA.
Everything is constantly changing, and unexpected things can happen
at any time. However, by changing one’s perspective, new paths may open up. That’s what I think. Yuka M.
I have studied both meditation and yoga within Buddhist-based lineages. In all aspects, I value the Middle Way, and the balance of theory, practice, and experience. I focus on teaching how to connect the mind and body to the ‘present moment,’ and strive to provide personalized guidance so that each individual can experience calmness and harmony.
